While pouring nearly $100 into the fuel tank of our '12 Ram Power Wagon long-termer I noticed this little gas tax sticker on the pump. I was paying $4.23 a gallon which likely sounds high to most of you in other states, but it's actually a fairly decent price for around these parts.
Anyway, the taxes here add up to quite a bit of the fuel cost. The state and federal taxes add up to 54 cents a gallon. Tack on the local 8.25% sales tax and you get a total of about 89 cents a gallon that goes to the government. Damn! I remember paying less than a buck for a gallon of gas! So $20.47 of what went in my tank this morning went to Uncle Sam. Geez, I think for that kind of cash income the 405 freeway should be smooth and 20 lanes wide so there is no traffic...ever!
