M1008 CUCV and M101A2 Trailer Bed Conversion

Over the weekend I found some time to work on my M1008 GM truck. Sometime ago I bought the truck followed by the purchase of an M101A2 trailer. The plan has been to combine the two since the bed of my truck was a little hammered. Plus the M101 bed just looks a heck of a lot cooler than the stock truck bed. It's also a lot tougher (thicker steel), provides more ground clearance, a better departure angle, and the wheelwells offer plenty of room for bigger tires.

I can't take credit for the idea. A buddy at another 4x4 magazine told me about it and is working on his own conversion on an old 2WD Dodge truck.

Anyway, yesterday I got the original bed off of the truck and the new one on. It's no easy feat when you're working alone without a forklift! Eventually I'll move the fuel tank up and out of harms way. I still need to lift the truck, add bigger tires and wheels, and so on. But first I think I should finish the bed mounts. I mocked up one of the 40-inch Super Swamper Boggers to see how it looks. What do you think so far?
