Collector Car Appreciation Day

Friday, July 13 is Collector Car Appreciation Day! Drive your old 4x4 to work! It just so happens that there is a Hot Rod Magazine relaunch party at my work on the same day. So I plan to nudge my rusty beat-up 4x4 in between two pristine road-only rides in the Hot Rod parking lot! I'm sure plenty will scoff at the lumber rack, dents, and old mud still on the truck from last winter. But who cares!

We'll see if I get booted out. Heck, my '73 Jeep J-2000 truck is older than most of the people on the Hot Rod staff, that has to make it collectable right!

1. I just get head shakes when I pull up to work in my '86 Comanche with the 2.1L Renault Turbo Diesel... Especially because my antique plates just say "DIESEL". Think what they want... There is something to be said about cruising with one hand on the shifter, one hand on the wheel, and the hum of the Turbo on a cool summer night.

3. Driving my '73 J-2000 into the office this morning only added about 5-10 minutes to my drive time. It's 40 miles one way door-to-door. LA freeways are fast when there is no traffic early morning. Many people are scootin' along at 80 mph. With a T-18 four-speed, 4.10 gears, and 37-inch tires I'm cruising at 65-70.
