For decades Dana Spicer has been the Willy Wonka of the 4x4 industry. We all know, love, and use the company's products like U-joints and ring and pinions, but we never had access to the meat an potatoes of what the company offers, it's complete axles. That is not until now, Dana has created a new division called Dana Crate Axles.
Now don't get too excited just yet. At this time you can't just order any width, lug pattern, or suspension mounting. In fact, the axles will come with pretty much zero suspension and steering bracketry on them. However, each of the bare axle housings comes from an existing application somewhere in the industry. The axles will generally include the housing, an option of several different ring and pinion ratios, axle shafts, knuckles, and wheel hubs. They typically will not include brakes or any brake parts. Available axles will include Dana 30, 44, 60, 70, and 80 in a mix of front and rear applications. In and of itself its not such a big deal for those that can't fabricate and weld, however the aftermarket axle industry will certainly embrace the new axle resource and be able to cut, chop, and modify these axles and likely offer them at prices that are significantly less costly than a full-on custom axle.
