It's been at least 10 years since the editor of Four Wheeler Magazine has actually owned a 4x4. That all changed last week when I was hired.
In fact, I currently own several 4x4s and have performed nearly all the work on them myself. My first car was a 4x4 too. Come to think of it, I've never even owned a regular car. All of the vehicles I've owned have been trucks and 4x4s. Well except for that short 3-month-period when I experimented with a VW Baja bug. But the truth is my intention was to abuse it off-road, which I did regularly until I sold it to buy my second Toyota 4x4.
Anyway, I've worked on several off-road magazines since 1998 and I have some changes in mind for Four Wheeler. Ultimately Ken Brubaker, Sean Holman, and I want to make Four Wheeler a magazine that we would want to read, and more importantly, a magazine that you'll want to read too. To me, it takes real dedication to make an amazing off-road magazine. Now I'm not so bold as to say I can do that better than the past captains of this ship, but I'll do my best to steer into some more interesting waters.
