Because we're really getting tired of seeing ORV areas shut down.
The Gulches ORV Park is South Carolina is the latest victim of the Great Recession and is in imminent danger of closing due to the economic downturn of the local economy. From the park's Website:
"2010 has been the worst year gross income wise of our 5 years. We have lost at least 25% of our traffic. I’m sure this is due to the loss of jobs in the community.
"We are at a point where one of three things has to happen soon or we all lose the park forever.
"One, we need an investor or a small group of investors to purchase 45% of our company. With a block of money to reduce our monthly payments by that 25%, we can be profitable even if the economy stays the same.
"Two, we need to sell the park to someone who will not be over financed.
"Three, 25% more folks need to come into the park each weekend."
Fortunately, some local wheelers are already coming to the rescue with a planned Save The Gulches Trail Ride this coming February 19, 2011. A number of Carolina clubs have pledged their support, and if you live within driving distance of The Gulches, we'd kindly ask you to join them if you have the time. For everyone else, you can get information about providing financial assistance (or buying a stake in the park, if you've got the resources) by going to www.gulchesorvpark.com or by calling park owner Skip Wilkenson at 864/449-5698. Now's a time for all of us to help out our brothers wheelers any way we can!
