While we were perusing the wares in the big vendor tent at King of the Hammers, we met the folks from Aberle Off Road of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and we had the chance to inspect their lightweight bumpers that are cast from aerospace aluminum A356.
The Dodge front bumper you see above weighs less than 100 pounds! Aberle says all of their bumpers have been engineered to be pound-for-pound stronger than comparable steel bumpers and of course they'll never rust. The Dodge bumper comes standard with powdercoating, heavy-duty mounting brackets, manganese bronze tow hooks, and light ports designed for four PIAA lights (iron crosses are optional). The bumper comes in two styles; one fits '03-'05 Ram models and the other fits '06-'09 Ram models. Aberle says the bumper will work with most snowplows too.
Aberle Off Road also offers an aluminum front bumper for the Jeep JK and it weighs less than 65 pounds. This winch-ready bumper is powdercoated, has manganese bronze tow hooks, and a pair of light ports designed for the factory lights. The hoop is optional and offers protection as well as two more light ports.
