*FACTORY-INSTALLED FIFTH WHEEL AND GOOSENECK SUBSTRUCTURE*
Ford says it's the first-ever factory-installed and warranted system. And the electrical connection comes mounted in the side of the bed wall. It's also worth mentioning that Ford's Trailer Sway Control (TSC) is now standard on single rear wheel configurations.
*LCD PRODUCTIVITY SCREEN*
It's 4.2 inches and is navigated via a five-way button on the steering wheel. There are a slew of menu options including trip computer, fuel economy, and towing info, as well as an "off-road message center." This off-road feature allows you to see the lateral, vertical, and turning radius of maneuvers. For towing, the system allows the driver to store trailer brake controller gain settings among other things. It can also be used to name and change a trailer, which allows tracking of mileage.
*6.7L POWER STROKE TURBODIESEL ENGINE*
Ford says this engine will deliver a "signficant improvement in torque, horsepower, and fuel economy." Interesting features of this engine include a compacted graphite iron block, single-sequential turbocharger with an industry-first double-sided compressor wheel (combines the benefits of a small and large turbo in one unit), and "inboard exhaust" architecture, which essentially flips the cylinder heads around to mount the exhaust manifolds in the valley of the engine and the intake outboard of the engine (minimizes heat transfer and improves NVH). They also say the new engine architecture enables easier service work for all major engine components. Here, the new 6.7L is shown mated to the new 6R140 heavy-duty TorqShift six-speed transmission that has been specifically designed to handle the increased output of the engine. This transmission will also offer the segment-exclusive Live Drive Power Take Off for diesels.
For those who don't want a diesel, there's the all-new 6.2L V-8. Ford says this large bore, short stroke engine will deliver more horsepower than the outgoing 6.8L V-10 (the V-10 will still be available in the F-450 and F-550). That means it makes in excess of the 362 hp, which was the output of the 2010 V-10. They also say it'll produce class-leadiing fuel economy. The new 6.2L is E85/flex fuel capable and has a cast-iron block, four-bolt main, aluminum heads, a pair of valves and spark plugs per cylinder, dual-equal variable cam timing, composite intake manifold, and 9.8:1 compression ratio, among other things.
