The official press release won't be distributed until tomorrow or Friday, but tonight at a press gathering here in Moab we were given advance lowdown on the 2009 BFGoodrich Outstanding Trails Program.
Due to the current economy, BFG has elected to reduce the amount of trails and focus on keeping the program dynamic and active so they can continue to grow once the economy stabilizes. With that said, BFG, in collaboration with Tread Lightly! and United Four Wheel Drive Association, have announced that Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area and the Fordyce Creek Trail are the selections for this year.
As has been the tradition, these trails were chosen for their uniqueness, terrain type, and enthusiast following. To help aid with costs associated with the trail's conservation efforts, BFG will also present a grant to a selected off-road club at each event. BFG will be at club events associated with these trails and areas to highlight the uniqueness of each location as well as educate off-road enthusiasts on the responsible use of each trail. BFG will be at Barnwell Mountain (note: this is the first privately-owned off-highway area chosen as an Outstanding Trail) on May 23, and at the Fordyce Creek Trail on August 8.
