Lots of press releases cross our desk, but this one was especially fascinating. It's the Live Trac PT-10 GPS Tracker and it allows for high-tech live tracking of people or things.
Wanna monitor your kids driving habits? Wanna know where your toolbox is if it gets "borrowed?" Wanna let someone back home track your progress on the trail or on a trip? Wanna know where the heck your cat goes when you let it out at night? Well, the PT-10 updates every 10 seconds when traveling over 10 mph or every 20 feet when walking. Movements can be tracked live via the Internet and you can change map views on-the-fly and even get a bird's eye view of where the PT-10 is located.
This thing is pretty cool. It measures 3.5x2.08x0.75 and it's completely portable. It turns off when it is not moving to save battery power and the rechargeable battery will give you up to 8 hours of operation under continuous motion (there is an extended runtime battery pack available, which offers 40 hours of actual vehicle drive time). The PT-10 is rechargeable via USB or a 120 VAC wall charger. It stores all positions for easy playback and it can notify you immediately via e-mail or SMS text message when the device enters or exits areas that you designate on the interface map. It can also alert you if it exceeds speed thresholds you set. To do this it uses the AT&T digital cellular network.
The PT-10 is being advertised on sale for $399 at www.liveviewgps.com and they're waving the $69 activation fee. There is an unlimited-use $39.99 per month subscription fee.
