General Motors issued a press release last Friday stating that it has "temporarily reassigned" resources of its High Performance Vehicle Operations (HPVO).
GM says this is due to a refined focus of work on core products. They go on to say that 60 engineers are affected by this decision, and that they are a talented, experienced group and they have been placed in other engineering operations of General Motors. They will be working on core, volume products, including further improvements in fuel efficiency and advanced propulsion.
From what we can gather, HPVO was formed in 2001 and consists of many folks who have a history in various types of racing and high performance in general. This is also the group that is responsible for many of the latest vehicles bearing the "SS" badge.
So will one or two of these engineers be assigned to GM's truck group where they can covertly spool up a little concotion like a production long-travel 638 horsepower Silverado Z71 ZR1 4x4?
