Yesterday we were at the Chicago Auto Show and the big unveil of the day was the new 2010 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups.  From a strictly visual perspective the new HD's are a sight to behold.  Check out the smooth lines on this 3500 dually.  One of the most eye-catching items are the rear fenders, which are new for 2010.  More than just a pretty decoration, they achieve improved aerodynamics.

Looks ain't everything to the Workin' Joe, however.  For the first time the new HDs will be available as crew-size and Mega Cab models.  Depending on the model you'll get either the 6.7L Cummins diesel (with standard exhaust brake) or the 5.7L Hemi V-8, and manual and automatic transmissions are shown as available.  Depending on the trim level you'll get either the NV271 manual or NV273 electric transfer case.  If the 3500 chassis cab is fitted with the standard six-speed manual transmission or diesel-optional Aisin AS68RC automatic you'll get PTO capability.  Dodge is saying that the new HDs have improved driving dynamics including a greatly improved ride, both loaded and unloaded, thanks in part to retuned suspension components and a new C-pillar with fluid-filled hydro mounts.  Speaking of loaded, Dodge says that many of the GCWR, GVWR and GAWR numbers have increased on the new HDs.

The tailgate is sculpted for better air flow and it incorporates a spoiler.  There's an available back-up camera and the tailgate also includes a lift-assist feature for one-handed operation.  There's also standard bedrail protection and bedrail caps.

Our quick glimpse of the new HD proved that Dodge is serious about the heavy-duty segment of the truck market.  We'll have more info on these rigs in the June issue of Four Wheeler and as it becomes available.
