Oh ye of little faith, the proof's in the winner's circle.
Longtime readers of our magazine may recall an in-depth article we published some three years ago about Honda's first foray into Baja racing with the then-new Ridgeline SUT. We received a storm of hate mail over this faux wheeler at the time, but lo and behold . . . three years later, Team Honda won its class at last week's 1000. Gavin Skilton managed to overcome tire and axle woes to pilot his Ridgeline to victory in the Stock Mini class in 21 hours, 22 minutes and 21 seconds, beating out the likes of Rod Hall and Ryan Millen for Honda's first-ever win at Baja.
So what's next? Well, we couldn't say for sure, but if you see a Honda taking class honors at a rock-racing championship down the road, don't say we didnt warn you. Anything truly is possible nowadays.
