I've driven over 1,050 miles in the past day and half and that included 9 hours of sleep (Disclaimer: I didn't sleep while driving). Actually, it was a lot of fun.
Monday began at 3 a.m. when I rolled out of bed here in northern Illinois and pointed the H2 toward Detroit. I've been driving this truck while Hummer had our Trailhugger H3 Alpha project at SEMA. With Pickup Truck of the Year immediately following SEMA, and a spurt of bad weather, I've been delayed in getting to Detroit to retrieve the H3 (sorry Hummer). Anyway, this was the snowy view around Kalamazoo on I-94. It alternated between wind-driven rain and snow the entire way across Michigan and back.
A pleasant surprise once I got to Michigan was the most inexpensive gas I've seen since it tanked (no pun intended). I never thought I'd see sub-$2 gallon gas again in my lifetime. Interestingly, when I dropped off the H3 in Detroit on October 10, fuel cost $3.18 per gallon. Wow, what a difference 7 weeks made.
Once I got to Detroit the folks at the GM warehouse brought out Trailhugger and I spent the next few minutes transferring stuff from the H2 to the H3. Then I pointed Trailhugger toward the Midwest Bureau.
After a few hours of sleep I hit the road again. This time to Attitude Performance in Arlington Heights, Illinois. One of today's tasks involved removing the BFG Mud-Terrain tires and swapping on the BFG All-Terrain tires. We have a lot of highway travel coming up for stories and trail rides and we don't want to wear the M-T's out. We're going to powdercoat an extra set of H3 wheels black and mount the Mud-Terrain's on those so we can simply swap between treads depending on how we're using the truck. Thanks to Alex, Greg, and of course Matt, for swapping tires for us. Again.
So all the chores are done and Thanksgiving is tomorrow. That's something to give thanks for.
