For us, a brand-new award. Now we just have to drive it

Four Wheeler is proud to announce the winner of its prestigious, first-ever Car of the Year award: the 2009 Nissan GT-R.

What’s not love about this shiny beast? For us, we can’t decide what we like best. Maybe it’s the twin-turbocharged, 480hp 3.8L V-6 that’ll run zero to 60 in three seconds, trap 11-second quarters, and top out at a leisurely 193 mph. Or maybe it’s the rear-mounted six-speed dual-clutch tranny and Attesa AWD system that’s joined to the motor by a carbon composite driveshaft. Or maybe it’s the adjustable Bilstein dampers, the 15-inch Brembos (with six-piston fronts) or the 35-series Dunlop run-flats that come nitrogen-filled from the factory. Heck, the thing’s even got a locker in the rear end! And Hill Start to boot! And all for a hair over $75 grand, which makes this the Supercar for wheelers performance dudes on a budget.

Now, granted, we haven’t actually driven the thing yet. Nor, quite frankly, are we ever likely to. On the other hand, if one of our amigos at Nissan is willing, we’d be happy to take a GT out in the dirt to the track for a test flog. And, since our good and trusted Source Interlink brethren at Motor Trend and Automobile already gave the GT-R their Car of the Year awards, we figured we might as well get a piece of the action too. Hey, all’s fair in the Search Engine wars.
