Today Ensanada was a flurry of pre race activity. As afternoon fog blanketed the area, tons of race teams filed into the streets of down town claiming hotel parking lots and just about every square inch of secure parking lot available. Many took advantage of the grand opening of the first 170 mile leg of the course. Until now this section has been off-limits to pre-running.
I hung out near the hotel Villa Marina where Pistol Pete Sohren's crew set up base camp. Today Pete took three of his crew out in the prerunner to mark the first part of the race on the GPS. Meanwhile some members of the chase crew handled securing 8 drums of 110-octain race gas from a local fuel broker.
PCI Race Radios was on hand to trouble shoot, repair and install the vital communication systems each and every racer depends on throughout the event. I had my helmet wired for ear buds so that I can hear Pete and co-driver Rich Klien's conversation during the race.
I took a stroll through town to see where everything was and to obtain my media badge. I ran into Four Wheeler Freelancer Ned Bacon and his significant other Kat at the VW-sponsored Media lounge and night club dubbed "Das Club". After a short visit I found myself captivated by all the cool prerunner rigs lining the streets. On my way back to the hotel I passed through the wash to see how the jump construction was going. Below are some shots I took along my walk.
Tomorrow is Contingency Day! I'm so excited to see at the cool race vehicles parade through the streets of Ensanada.
