High Speed Pond Skipping In A Bronco

Now here's something you don't see every day.  This Bronco is being piloted by past TTC competitor and Performance Unlimited owner Randy Thomas, and it's skimming across a 4-foot-deep pond in excess of 75 miles an hour.

We shot this image a few years ago and we couldn't remember all the details so we gave Thomas a call.  He says the Bronco was fitted with 35x21.5-15 paddle tires on 20-inch-wide wheels.  He says the trick to skimming the deep pond was to hit the water between 75 and 90 miles per hour in two-wheel drive.  Four-wheel drive caused the front wheels of the rig to "dig" into the water with less than desireable results.  There were also challenges relating to the steering the truck due to the angle of the paddles.

Ultimately, Thomas had an incentive to get it right the first time because he doesn't know how to swim.
