Pickup Truck of the Year: Day Two

No, we didn't roll any trucks during testing today, but this is how they looked to some of us when we struggled out of bed this morning after being up til the wee hours sorting photos, writing blogs and catching up on work.  But hey, after an infusion of caffeine we were good to go and it was a great day.

We began our day by hitting the car wash to eliminate yesterday's lake bed dirt.  This is one of those logistical chores that must be done so the trucks look good for photos.

While our four trucks were being cleaned the Four Wheeler team took the opportunity to ingest yet even more caffeine as well as share thoughts on the trucks.

The day's testing began at the racetrack where we ran acceleration and braking tests.  That's Stover manning the computer, which is used to record all the track data.

This is tech editor Holman.  He's the offical driver during testing.

After track testing and a bueno Mexican lunch we dumped our gear at our home for the next two nights.  Past broken laptops have made it mandatory to get rid of sensitive electronic equipment before bouncing down the trail.

Out in the desert we hit the trails with abandon.  The trails we ran today were totally different than the trails we ran yesterday.  These were faster and twistier than yesterday's.

We set up the obligatory group shot in a sand bowl and took the photos right after the sun had set behind the mountains.  As if on cue the moon rose behind the trucks.  We love the California desert.  This photo was taken after we were done and the moon had disappeared behind the clouds.

We were out until after dark.  This may not seem like a big deal, but for us it offered the opportunity to test the vehicles forward lighting on the trail both crawling at at speed.  You'd be surprised what we learn about factory forward lighting.  Or lack thereof.

TOMORROW we will be on the trail all day.  Maybe Stover will get to change a tire yet.
