Halloween Hounds in Belmont Shore

Going to The Dogs

It’s true, we are a bit odd here in California . . .

Yesterday, we happened to be down in the Long Beach area, where we took some time off in the midst of World Series Boredom and Election Fever to take in a bit of the 8th Annual Halloween Haute Dog parade, and yes, as you can imagine it features Man’s Best Friend in countless stages of attire, along with their slightly-wacky owners, parading down the main drag in the beachside neighborhood of Belmont Shore. Over the course of an hour, we spied doggie astronauts, bumblebees, convicts, hippies, pirates, mummies, Marines, flying monkeys (think “Wizard of Oz”), gladiators, Tarzans, at least one skunk, and yes, even a doggie Britney Spears (don’t ask).

Now, this parade is serious business in these parts---this year, over 500 pooches were registered, and thousands of people spilled out onto 2nd Street  in Belmont for a chance to check out the action---hey, they even sell $5 reserved seats for this shindig----and naturally, we were there for every moment of kibble-fueled excitement.

Wanna see more pics? Hey, these critters have even got their own Website, and you can see ‘em all right here. If you’re even in SoCal on the weekend before All Souls’, it’s not to be missed.

And on the subject, what’s your four-legged Best Friend wearing for Halloween this year?
