In 1984 I bought my first 4x4, this '76 Blazer. That was the year Michael Jacksons hair caught on fire and 36s were considered a big tire.
Technically I didn't buy the Blazer, I traded my 1980 4-cylinder Mercury Capri for it. The owner said he was fed up with the Blazer because it handled bad. He was right. After a harrowing ride home I aired up the right front 36-inch tire, which only had 10 psi in it, and the truck handled great. The previous owner wasn't a happy camper when I told him that's all it took to fix the problem.
This is how the rig looked when I brought it home. Worn tires and a set of white wagon wheels with a 4-inch lift. The photo above shows it with a set of better tires and wheels I bought shortly after.
I wheeled the Blazer a lot. Living in the country meant that wheeling was right outside the back door. I owned, and thrashed, the truck for a few years but eventually traded it off to get a Scout.
