Now that the 2008 4-Wheel Jamboree season has concluded, I figure that Special Events is feverishly working on the '09 Jamboree schedule. Being a good little helper, I have a few new locations for them to consider. I'd like to see a spinoff Series held in exotic locations. Here are four ideas off the top of my head. Disclaimer: These ideas are not driven by my selfish desire to travel to exotic destinations for free.
Kohala Coast Winter 4-Wheel Jamboree, Kailua Kona, Hawaii
Find a chunk of privately-owned land and throw down some truck goodness in January. This volcanic area sports lava fields galore so the first-ever Lava Rock Crawling Competition would be a given. Surprise lava flows would up the challenge level. Show hotel: The incredible Mauna Lani, favorite of the rich 'n famous (sunset photo taken from the 5th floor above).
San Juan Mountains 4-Wheel Jamboree, Telluride, Colorado
July in the high mountain town of Telluride is temperate and the scenery is off the hook. The thin air would be chaotic to the race trucks engines and anything with a carburetor, which would add challenge. The Special Events staff could lead trailrides because legendary trails like Black Bear Road and Imogene Pass are a lugnuts throw. Pagano and his Main Stage would be silhouetted by 13,319 ft. Palmyra Peak. Show hotel: The luxurious Peaks Resort in Mountain Village.
Kenai Peninsula 4-Wheel Jamboree, Anchorage, Alaska
The sun never sets in this part of the world in late June, so if we had the event then we could Jambo 24 hours a day for three days straight! The perfect location would be near a glacier so no one would have to bring ice. Show hotel: the sumptuous Alyeska Resort.
Monterey Peninsula 4-Wheel Jamboree, Pebble Beach, California
If it's good enough for the Concours d'Elegance it's good enough for us. We could call it the Concours d'Transfer Case (a lot of thought went into that). Probably should have a dress code. Show hotel: Any place with a water view, which is just about everywhere.
Thanks, I'll be here all week.
