Yesterday I was in Attica, Indiana, for the XRRA Eastern Final. Today I pointed project Trailhugger south towards the great state of Tennessee via Illinois and Kentucky.
While our esteemed Editor Douglas McColloch is holding down the fort in Pebble Beach, I headed to Dyersburg, Tennessee, so I could spend the day tomorrow with our friends at Rough Country Suspension and check out their new lift kit for the Ford F-150.
It was a great day for travel with no bad weather or gnarly traffic. I ran Trailhugger at 65 mph with the A/C on and got 16.8 mpg out of our 5.3L-powered H3 Alpha. I was pretty happy with that number because one of my main project goals was to retain as much mpg as possible even with a bunch of off-highway-friendly mods. So far so good.
One of the first things I did when I got to Dyersburg was hit the store to stock up on Coca-Cola. I know that may come as a surprise. At any rate, I saw something that confirmed I wasn't in northern Illlinois any longer. Grits. Right on the store shelf. Imagine that. Southerners may roll their eyes and wonder what the big deal is, but trust me, you rarely see grits on store shelves in the North. I'm planning on making them part of every meal while I'm here.
