Yet More Wheelers in Tha Hood

What, again? But wait, this one's actually way cool . . .

We spied this seemingly mild-mannered ’08 Land Cruiser outside our palatial Wilshire offices yesterday, and while we can’t show you a better angle of it, a close inspection shows some neat new aftermarket add-ons that can make the already capable LC an even better luxo-wheeler.

At first glance, we’d have to assume the neck-snapping 5.7L 380hp iForce V-8 has been left alone, as has the six-speed automatic and full-time 4WD system. The suspension, however, shows trick new parts from Total Chaos (upper A-arms) and coilover shocks and rear radius arms from Icon Vehicle Dynamics (nee Donahoe Racing) that help provide 3 inches of lift, and room in the wheelwells for 285/70R17 (33s, essentially) Goodyear MT/Rs on 17-inch beadlocked TRD alloys. We’re not sure how the ESP and Crawl Control systems work with this new setup, but we’d wager the aftermarket dudes have engineered the proper fix already. Next up? How about some lower ring and pinions?

The Total Chaos 4130 chromoly upper A-arms work in tandem with Icon Vehicle Dynamics’ 2 ½-inch coilover kit to provide a good 3 inches of lift and room for 33s in the wells. Zerk fittings are at all pivot points, and a 1-inch uniball helps to add a bit of travel to the system.

Slee Off Road has become a well-known aftermarket resource for late-model Cruiser owners, and these rock rail/side steps are a nifty form of bolt-on rocker protection for the big ol' Toy.

We’re guessing this ultra-stout old-skool pintle hitch is not a check-off option at your local Toyota dealer. But heck, it oughta be.
