Detroit News and Pickuptrucks.com are reporting that Ford has decided to shelf its 2011 midsize F-100 program indefinitely.

A couple months ago we told you about Ford’s plans to develop a sub-F-150 truck dubbed F-100. The F-100 was to be about the size or slightly smaller than the ’97 – ’03 generation F-150 and would be based on a modified version of the current F-150 platform with a focus on capability and fuel economy.

Ford has decide to sink the development money that would have gone in to the F-100 back in the F-150 and Super Duty to come to market with fuel-saving technologies, such as EcoBoost four and six cylinder turbocharged direct injected gas engines, Ethanol Boost (ethanol boosted gas engines that deliver diesel-like fuel economy and power), and diesel to name a few.
