Old-Beyond-Its-Years 2003 Ford Super Duty

(Big) Wheelers in Tha Hood

We hear it still goes off-road every now and then . . .

Today’s wheeler, spied near our palatial offices, is a very special project rig. Rescued from undrivable oblivion more than once in its nasty-brutish-and-short lifetime, this 2003 Super Duty has been jumped, thumped, and repeatedly dumped, but nowadays it serves as a daily driver/bachelor-pad on wheels for the staff of one of our sister pubs. She’s been run hard and put away broken more than once, but she’s still a good rolling test bed for a variety of aftermarket goodies, courtesy of Toyo, Banks, Dynatrac, American Racing, Fox, Daystar, T-Max, Soltek, Off-Road Tech and a bunch of other top-rank suppliers. The generous layer of guano-coating on the hood and roof are a reminder that this rig loves to play in the Pismo Dunes.

The once coilover-converted, now spring-over’d front suspension is damped by dual Fox Racing remote reservoirs. Forty-inch Toyos on 20-inch AR rims comprise rolling stock; Dynatrac lockout hubs up are a hip addition up front.

The 10,000-pound Valley drop hitch adds versatility out back, though we’re not sure we’d wanna get too close behind this puppy if she’s actually towing a load. The rear suspension utilizes 4-inch blocks (ugh), so you know she ain’t a Four Wheeler rig.

Pimpin’ ain’t easy. Nothing says “Party at Pismo” quite like a Barcalounger in the bed---heck, we’re Jonesin’ for a trip to the dunes ourselves.
