Gearing up For The Best In The Desert Vegas to Reno Race.

Once again it's time to dust off the old Baja Bomber chase truck and head out into the desert to play.

Every so often I get an invite to assist a race team with a effort to win. Sometimes I accept, other times I pass. This time I've secured special an embedded position with Lucas Baja racing as they try to capture a win in the trophy truck class.

Lucas Baja has Rickey Johnson as the driver of record for this particular race. I plan to capture all the "behind the scenes" stuff that goes into a desert race and compile a web exclusive article about the Unsung Hero's of Desert Racing.

In preparation for the race I got the Baja Bomber out of storage and started making a punch list of what needs to be done to ensure the truck will get me to the race and back in one piece.

Baja Bomber's Bed

Here Goes:

1. fix oil leak under power steering pump.

2. replace blown speakers in doors.

3. Hook up Oasis compressor under bed.

4. Install air tank under bed.

5. Change engine oil.

6. Clean out junk under back seat.

7. Pack tools and other supplies.

8. Find key for lock securing floor jack to bed, or cut and replace.

9. Install race radio and GPS unit.

This is the truck I'll be following on the chase route.
