Why not? Most everything else we have nowadays is wireless.
Matt Dinelli at Attitude Performance gave us the idea of creating a wireless remote control lighting system for project Trailhugger. We liked the idea, so he hooked us up with Jerry Villa, owner of Showtime Audio in Chicago, Illinois (more on Showtime Audio in tomorrow's blog). Villa is an electronics wizard and this sort of thing is right up his alley.
These are some of the parts that we got from Directed Electronics to make the system work. There are five relays, a remote (we actually got two) and a receiver. We also used a Buss circuit breaker and fuse block.
The wireless remote control lighting system runs 10 PIAA 2100XT lights, some of which are shown here. These are powerful little lamps. We installed a pair of rear-facing wide-angle (70-degree) lamps, a pair of wide-angle lamps on each side of our truck and four forward-facing driving lamps (15-degree).
All of the lamps fit nicely onto our Gobi Stealth roof rack and thanks to Showtime Audio and Directed Electronics we can now operate the PIAA lights from either inside or outside of the rig by simply pressing a button on the remote control key fob.
I've made a Krappy Kam video of the install and you can view it by CLICKING HERE. It's about 6 minutes long and it'll give you an idea of what all went into installing this system. This is cool stuff.
