Last weekend was one of those rare times when I didn't have to be on the road covering an event or wrenching on some project. Naturally, when I heard that the small town of Pecatonica, Illinois, was having their "Cars On Main" car show I jumped in Trailhugger and headed to Pec with my two sons, Dave and Dan, and spent a couple of hours perusing the collection of vehicles. Some of you may remember Pecatonica as the home of the Spring 4-Wheel Jamboree in the early 90's. Cars On Main was light on trucks, but heavy on cool cars. It always amazes me that here in the Rust Belt there are so many finely restored old cars. Here are a few of my favs.
This is really weird but I want it. It's a '67 Austin Healey fitted with an '04 LS1 V-8 Corvette engine. It has 11-inch disc brakes front and rear, a 6-speed trans and a 9-inch rear axle.
How 'bout this home-built electric-powered Chevy? Yep, the 4-cylinder gas engine has been replaced with an all-electric powerplant. The system includes a DC electric motor attached to the transmission, a controller that adjusts the DC power to the motor and an accessory battery that runs stuff like turn signals, lights, etc... Um, okay.
This finely restored '36 Ford Touring Sedan made me drool even though it was built 27 years before I was born. It's powered by the original 85 hp flat head engine.
I have no idea what the year of this phat Caddy is, nor do I really care. I just want it.
Fuel mileage? Who cares? This jet black 462ci-powered '67 Lincoln Continental convertible rocks.
My favorite truck of the show was this incredibly restored '51 International L-120 Series pickup. This rare truck is so cool it hurts.
