We've been seeing alot of signs like this lately around the Four Wheeler Midwest Bureau in northern Illinois. The immediate area around our office hasn't suffered as greatly as the area along the Mississippi River in Illinois and Iowa, but we've certainly had our share of flooding. Fortunately, around here the water is slowly beginning to recede.
A couple of days ago this road was under a couple of feet of river water, but today we were able to drive our H3 on it with no problem. The only thing we had to stay alert to was the possibility of deep erosion created by the strong current.
This small county park is located near the Illinois-Wisconsin state line. A few days ago it was completely inundated with water. In another day or so it'll be water-free but a muddy mess with hoardes of mosquitoes. It'll take this park a long time to dry out due to the thick timber.
Even though the waterways are receding there are still many farm fields covered with standing water. We've seen many ruined corn and bean fields and by the time things dry out it'll be too late to replant the crops. We'll all be feeling the effects of this flood for a long time.
We're all hoping that the remaining levees along the Mississippi River and elsewhere stay intact.
