Hummers have played a critical role in helping flood victims here in the Midwest.  This photo, taken last Friday, shows Hummer Driving Academy instructors and AM General employees leaving the Spencer, Indiana, Red Cross Center after delivering relief supplies for victims of recent flooding in the area.       

The teams were called to service by the American Red Cross to provide emergency response during the Midwest floods.  Hummer has been a solid supporter of the Red Cross and has committed to provide 72 disaster response vehicles to the American Red Cross by 2010. 

Other stories involving Hummers are also surfacing in the news.  Newsweek.com is reporting how Mark Egly, a golf pro living in Des Moines, used his Hummer to make numerous trips through hood-deep water to get sandbags to his residence.   Clearly, Egly is probably loving the water fording capabilities of his Hummer.

Here at the Four Wheeler Midwest Bureau in northern Illinois we're on high ground and we've been spared the worst of the flooding.  Our nearest river, the Pecatonica, crested this morning well over its banks and is forecast to begin receding over the coming days.  Many roads north of us in Wisconsin are still under water and closed.  My son works at a tree farm near Avon, Wisconsin, and the road from the west into town and one of the roads from the south are under water and closed.  I drove up to Bergstrom Hummer in Madison, Wisconsin, this morning to have our Hummer H3 Alpha serviced and saw many low-lying fields with young crops are under water.

I'll try to get out over the next couple of days and photograph some of the flooding in and around the area.  In the meantime we can all keep the flooding victims in our thoughts and prayers.
