When Eaton's Marketing Director, Scott Frary decided to build a rig for promotional use, the idea of a super light weight buggy seemed pretty cool. So Frary inlisted the expertise of the fab gurus Josh and Jared Prindle of AFW Motorsports and Prindle Mfg. & Performance Motorsports in Montana. The result was a custom lightweight that to the best of our knoledge has never been successfully duplicated.
The rig is powered by a GM Performance LS2 V8. Turn Key Engine Supply did some custom tunning to get the power plant to run the way Frary wanted it to. A Ron Davis aluminum radiator keeps the mill cool.
The TCI-built 4L60 Automatic handles gear selection while a Dana 300 transfer case splits torque between a pair of Stout Currie-built axles. The rear end is a Alumi-Jock 60 while the front 9-inch features aluminu F-450 steering knuckles. Both axles feature Detroit lockers.
Sway-A-Way coilover shocks give this rig plenty of flex while soaking up hard landings in the dunes.
Inside Mastercraft seats provide comfort and safety via a set of 4-point harnesses. A custom dash houses a digital gauge cluster. Rounding out the interior is a trick-looking Flaming River billet aluminum steering colum that screams quality.
A Novak adapter allows the powertrain package to work together while a pair of stout Tom Wood's drive shafts make it go.
For Wheels Frary went with a set of Trail Ready aluminum beadlocks wrapped in a durable set of 37-inch BFG Krawlers.
What's really neat about this rig is that the whole tube-chassis is constructed from 6061T6 Aluminum. Yes we mean everything, from the cage to the link-mounts, even the body panels. And get this, the coilover mounts are 7075 material. Thanks to the extensive use of aluminum the whole package weighs just 2,700-lbs wet.
A special thanks goes out to Dana and Nick Westburg of West Fab Customs in Billings, Montana for providing all the custom aluminum bodywork throughout.
