On the Road Again - Part 4: Small Towns in Small Cars

Mitsubishi Evo X Road Trip Part 4

Sunday, May 18, 2008... the last day of the "Oregon Trail Rally" and the second to last day of our Epic Evo Road Trip. Today we found ourselves in the small town of Vernonia Oregon, population seven...

... ok, so not really seven, closer to 2,500, but that's still small by most standards. We started off our day by finding our way to the one and only spectator area for this day of the race, again deep in the woods outside of town. Only this time we could only see one stretch of straight road, there was no real view of a corner or anything too exciting. The day got off to a late start, almost two hours late, with little explanation from the course workers. After we had seen the cars go by (finally) we decided we had had enough and shot over about 40 miles to the town of Vernonia (as mentioned earlier) where the race pit area was staged for this day.

While we were in Vernonia we found an awesome little diner to eat lunch at, a bizarre coffee shop with books of dead people from the 40's, walked the pits and didn't see another spectator at all, followed Ken Block for about 5 miles on the highway (yup, they drive the race cars from stage to stage), and saw our one other Evo in town again.

All in all it was a decent day, but now it's time to get some dinner and some sleep to prepare us for the 1,000 mile drive back to our World Headquarters early tomorrow morning, wish us luck!

Oh, and I'll get some shots of this thing in the dirt eventually, I swear it.
