It sounds too good to be true . . . but it is!

It’s being bandied about on the Internet today, and we can verify from our sources that Chrysler will guarantee $2.99-a-gallon gas for the next three years for everyone who buys a new Chrysler car, truck or SUV.

Here’s how it works: after you register for the Let’s Refuel America program, you’ll receive a special Refuel America gas card and a PIN number to use it. Use the card at any participating gas station---selecting either 87-octane regular, E85 or diesel fuel, and your personal credit card is charged $2.99 per gallon. Chrysler picks up the rest of the tab.

There’s only one catch, however---a few Chrysler vehicles aren’t eligible for the program, among them . . . the Jeep Wrangler. Argh.

Still, if you’re shopping for a Durango, a Grand Cherokee, a Dodge truck, or (the horror!) a Nitro or Compass, this strikes us as a pretty attractive offer. What do you think?

Auburn Hills, Mich. - In response to direct customer feedback citing the prospect of rising gas prices as a top concern, Chrysler LLC today announces its own economic stimulus package: an exclusive gas price protection policy that eliminates the risk of further spikes in fuel prices. With the U.S purchase of eligible Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles, customers can enroll in the "Let's Refuel America" program and receive a gas card that immediately lowers their gas price to $2.99 a gallon, and keeps it there for three years. The offer is available at 3,521 U.S. Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealerships through June 2, 2008, and is available on vehicles ranging from popular new compacts, crossovers and minivans to full-size diesel-powered pickup trucks.

The Let's Refuel America program offers consumers a combination of the fuel price protection program and additional bonus cash up to $3,000 on available vehicles, including Chrysler PT Cruiser, Dodge Charger, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Dakota and Dodge Ram.
