Over the weekend, pictures were posted online of the much-anticipated 4.4L turbo diesel V-8 that is slated for the  2010.5 F-150, followed by the Expedition, Navigator, E-Series vans, and Super Duty.

4.4L Fact Sheet

Our friends at www.pickuptruck.com got wind of a posting on www.f150online.com of the upcoming 4.4L light duty turbo diesel V-8. There have been many rumors about this engine and its output, but now we know that it will get 20-percent better fuel economy than a 5.4L Triton V-8 gas engine and will deliver approximately 9-percent more horsepower and 15-percent more torque, placing output around 330/420. Ford expects the acceleration to be similar to a 5.4L. To clean up emissions, the 4.4L will utilize an on board aqueous urea system that will need to be replenished at oil changes.

What we find interesting is that this diesel will also be offered in the Super Duty, apparently giving customers 2 choices when it comes to diesel engines. Have a Super Duty F-250, but don't tow or haul at the max GVWR? Perhaps this smaller ligter duty 4.4L would be a more economical choice.
