The Gulches Off Road Vehicle Park has been around for a couple of years and we finally got to wheel it today!
Owner Skip Wilkenson was our guide and he took us on a whirlwind tour of the park, which is located in Laurens County. We were accompanied by a few folks who have been integral to the park since the gates opened. Actually, BEFORE the gates opened, because many of these folks helped build the trails. Many also continue to help out regularly, too. You've probably already figured it out, but this image shows all of them on the porch of the Gulches Headquarters.
Here's a quick tour of the rigs:
Dean Childress- '85 Toyota 4Runner. It's an animal and it's daily-driven!
Matthew and Daniela Greene- '06 TJ. Simple but outstandingly effective. Also a daily-driver
Keith Marsh- '74 CJ. The Ford 302 with EFI is the first hint that this rig is way beyond average.
Rodney Graham- Suzuki Samurai. An amazing rig built with an admittedly "small budget."
Brad Seaton- '83 Chevy Truggy. A fine example of what to do with a wrecked pickup.
Danny King- '79 F-150/'72 Ford Maverick hybrid. Had parts, thought it would be cool.
Shelly Center- Suzuki Samurai. What homemakers do when they're not homemaking.
Peter Lindley- '91 Jeep Cherokee. What results when a computer guy reboots an SUV.
Dale and Will DuBose- '97 Jeep TJ. Nothin' stock 'cept the 4-cylinder and AX-5.
Samuel Joines- buggy. Built for rocks. Can you tell?
Skip Wilkenson- '04 TJ. Detroit, Yukon, Rough Country, IROKs. Works great.
We had a great time 'wheeling The Gulches. If you wanna see what they're all about visit www.gulchesoffroadpark.com. Thanks to Wilkenson for the hospitality (and the great grilled food). Thanks also to all the folks who took a day off to come out and play. LOOK for a full story on the Gulches in an upcoming issue of Four Wheeler.
