A closer (but quick) look at Hummers 6.2L-powered H3

Based on the buzz we’re hearing there’s apparently quite a lot of interest in the high-flying 6.2L-powered H3 we briefly mentioned in a blog from Moab a few weeks ago.  So here’s more 411 on this one-off semi-secret H3, along with a few more images we took of the rig in action when we drove it on the Kane Creek Trail.

rocks

Suspension lift?  Nope.  Instead, the H3 uses race-proven Rod Hall Racing remote-reservoir shocks and Light Racing JounceShocks.  Both products are available over-the-counter.  When combined, they make the suspension COME ALIVE performance-wise without sacrificing the H3’s outstanding ride quality.

droop

Bigger meats?  Yep.  Goodyear Wrangler 315/75R16s to be exact.  They’re on factory wheels that have ¾-inch spacers to compensate for the added width.  The engineers regeared the differentials to 4:56 to compensate for the bigger tires.  These tires fit nicely thanks in part to a 1 ¼-inch body lift.  Bet you didn’t notice the body lift, huh?  That’s probably because Hummer engineers RELOCATED the rear bumper and the front brushguard to compensate for the added height.

Power?  Oh, PUHLEEEZE!  Under the hood lurks a 6.2L V-8 that spits out an estimated 380hp and 417 lb-ft of torque.  It’s mated to a 4L70E 4-speed trans.  If you thought the 5.3L was fun you need to drive this red devil.  Want to baja?  It has what you need.  Want to crawl?  With front and rear lockers and a 4:1 t-case it’s MORE than capable.

We’ll have MORE information on this wicked H3 in the August issue of Four Wheeler.

Oh, one more thing: For us, driving this H3 was like driving a project before it’s even built because we had already planned on integrating many of these mods into our H3 Alpha project.  Now we know how DANDY they’ll work together.
