So I finally got a chance to see the new '09 Ram 1/2-ton last week. I admit it's much more refined than I expected. However I think their are a few aspects of the truck Chrysler should re-consider prior to production.
For instance, the front tow hooks are basically unusable because of the front bumper design.
I hope this changes before the production version of the pickup comes out.
Also, the rear bumper has a nice look to it with the dual exhaust exiting out the back, but what will this do for those of us who actually wheel their rigs. I would expect the tail pipe to get damaged quite easily in this configuration. Departure angle is something I always look at on pickups.
Now, check out the things I like about the new 1/2-ton Ram.
At first I was skeptical about this new bed configuration. After a closer inspection I started liking the way Chrysler engineered the handy storage compartments. They feature a drain, integrated lights and a locking door. They don't really rob the bed of usable space either. You can still put a 4x8 sheet of sheet rock in the bed with the tail gate down.
Inside the new '09 Ram also sports some cool innovations. Check out the hidden storage compartment under the rear passenger floor mats. The same storage space can be found on each side of the truck. I know I would keep things like road flares, a first aid kit, ratchet straps and a plug kit in these boxes.
I really dig the two-part glove compartment. This is a simple feature that makes life so much easier. Nissan Frontier, Xterra and Pathfinder all have this and I love it.
It looks like Dodge got smart about placment of the trailer hook ups. Now they are protected by the bumper instead of hanging down low in harms way.
Well, that's it for now. If you have something to say about the new 1/2-ton Ram, log in and leave a comment. Maybe the good folks at Chrysler will read them and consider our recomendations.
