Land Rover is celebrating its 60th anniversary of the Defender this year, and this new SVX special edition is one we’d love to see in our driveway: With Recaro seats, Garmin GPS, a new grille, an iPod cradle and USB port, rollcage with the soft top model, upscale alloy wheels . . . Ahhh, we’re still drooling, especially when you remember all the other good stuff that’s in there: 2.4L Duratorq diesel, six-speed gearbox, center diff-lock, solid axles, coil springs . . . well, this is one rig that would look good cruising around our neck of the woods (Beverly Hills is right across the street) or anywhere there’s dirt, rocks or mud. Unfortunately, you’ll have to fly to Australia or the UK to buy one, then deal with the Feds if you ship it home. We’re happy to see the LRX coming soon, but please, Tata, please, let us have a few to play with in the States as well. It can’t be all that hard to fit airbags in these things anymore. Unless, of course, it is.
