It was a tad disconcerting to disassemble the body of our pristine, perfectly good, brand-new H3 Alpha, but if that's the price we have to pay to de-pimp it then so be it.

Yesterday I left the Four Wheeler Midwest Bureau office in Illinois at 2:45 a.m.  It was a balmy 13 degrees below zero.  About 6 hours later I docked the Alpha Male (or should we call it H3zing Point?) at Burnsville Off Road and Auto Body in Burnsville, Minnesota.  Owner Dan McKeag had a team of body technicians waiting and they swarmed our H3 with a variety of strange tools known only to body repair folks.  A few hours later a significant portion of the exterior of our rig was carefully piled on cardboard and on stands in preparation for sanding.  Over the course of the next couple of days anything and everything Victory Red will be sanded in preparation for the Keystone Automotive Industries-provided flat clearcoat that will leave our rig shine-free and rugged-looking.  Just the way we like it.  Special thanks to Joe Hernandez and the team at Keystone store #121 in Minneapolis for hooking us up with the various finishing supplies, clearcoat and flattening agent we needed.  We're also going to replace the chrome door handles and outside rearview mirrors with factory flat black replacements.  We have a few other surprises lurking too.  Scroll down for more pics of the H3 Alpha disassembly and for some pics of the H3 in the radical weather we've had lately in Illinois.

So this leaves me driving a rental Chevy Cobalt for the next couple of days.  Maybe I'll write a blog about that.

But wait, there's more! Ken's Krappy Kam was there to capture all the excitement, click below for the video!
