If you have ever met the guys at Rubicon Express, or have dealt with them before, you know that they are a great bunch of guys to work with. It also doesn?t hurt that they are enthusiasts who regularly test their products on local trails, such as the Rubicon, which is in their backyard.
Rubicon Express built their reputation on top quality long arm TJ suspensions and has quickly risen to the top of the Jeep suspension industry by providing, what we consider some of the best Jeep suspension systems available today, in addition to a catalog full of other applications. At SEMA, we were intrigued by Rubicon?s all-new JK long arm system, so when they offered it up on our JK project, we jumped at the chance to Rubiconize our Unlimited.
Now some of you have questioned the validity of going to a long arm kit when the JK arms are longer than the TJ to begin with. Some of the benefits to long arm are a better ride as lift heights increase because the angle of the arm isn't as steep, as well as a straighter arc as the axle droops out. Others may question radius arms, and it is true, there are those of you out there who don't think they can get the job done, but so far we have been impressed with the ride and handling of our JK with the kit and are anxioius to get it out on the trail to report back to you. I think once you see the suspension in action or drive a Jeep with one installed, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the capability. And of course, as we get more miles on our JK well let you know what our thoughts are.
To bring you the nuts and bolts of this story, we hung out and shot photos while the guys in RE's R&D grafted our new suspension on to our Jeep. We got picture of the guys working, the pile of parts that was removed and the piles of parts that was installed, but since the complete article will be out in a future issue of the magazine, we had a very talented artist (me) illustrate the various steps for the install.
Enjoy!
